Bank of Ceylon pledges support for The Sri Lankan Scientist Magazine

Science communication is very much important to the right audience. Right audience is not the traditional one. Scientists might be talking to scientists. Academics might be lecturing to students. Industry experts might be struggling for importing technology for their applications and problems.

It is time that needs scientists and academics talks to industry and entrepreneurs leading them with right technology available in the academia pledging them the research and development support from the few but luxurious laboratories compared to industries.

The Sri Lankan Scientist Magazine seems a potential and viable initiative for trendy economic environment in Sri Lanka where there is a crowding for science and technology for economic development of the country.

The Sri Lankan Scientist Magazine was presented to the head of the largest banker in Sri Lanka, Mr D.M.Gunasekara, General Manager of Bank of Ceylon (BOC) by Mr Dilip Fernando, Managing Editor of The Sri Lankan Scientist Magazine. The magazine was presented during a corporate client discussion between BOC and Avon Pharmo Chem (Pvt) Ltd (APC). A few senior managers of the bank and Managing Director of APC were present at the moment.

“We are really happy to see and support sustaining this initiative on behalf of the Sri Lanka’s future development requirements. We believe that Science and Technology will support the industrial development of the country” Mr Gunasekara expressed.



“We being a leading laboratory supplies partner for the Sri Lankan research and medical sector, understood that there should be a societal role of a responsible corporate entity and initiated the Magazine as a CSR activity. We will continue our CSR budgets for this worthy cause on behalf of the country’s science communication need” Mr Ekanayake, MD of APC shared his views on the magazine.

“We are highly encouraged by the appreciations and understanding the value of the initiative by financial experts in Sri Lanka. Also we are hopeful that financial experts in banking leader understand the value of the science and technology for economic development. We will motivate the Sri Lankan scientists to come out from the pure sciences and do more effective researches and experiments so that the industry can solve their current and future issues. The Sri Lankan Scientist Magazine will fill the gap between academic researBOC logoch focus and industry solution needs while promoting science entrepreneurship for research commercialization” Mr Fernando told the gathering.

With this development, The Sri Lankan Scientist Magazine would be more affordable and will reach larger audience in science and non science oriented but audiences interested in science.
