The NSF is calling applications under the following 10 focused areas identified in the National Research and Development Investment Framework for 2015-2020, as the national priorities for Research and Development:

+ Water + Food, Nutrition and Agriculture
+ Energy + Textile and Apparel
+ Health + Mineral Resources
+ Shelter + Information Communication Technology  and  Knowledge Services
+ Environment + Basic Sciences, Social Sciences, Emerging Technologies and Indigenous Knowledge

The relevant research disciplines under which the applications are processed are given in the application form.

The research areas such as ‘vector borne diseases (malaria, dengue, Leishmaniasis etc.) and public health with reference to environmental pollution will also be considered.

As per NSF guidelines, the Principal Investigator should have a postgraduate research qualification (PhD, MPhil) and publications in the relevant area. Applicants with MSc., MD or MS qualifications should have minimum of 01 year research component in the course with publications in the relevant area.

The completed applications (e-version and hard copies in triplicate) should reach the NSF by 2.00 p.m. on the 16 December 2014.

Please note that the grants will be awarded based on the availability of funds. Applications received from Universities and Institutes under the Ministry of Technology and Research will be given priority for funding. Application forms, guidelines for the preparation of project proposals and other relevant information could be obtained from the National Science Foundation by sending a self-addressed envelope or downloaded from this website. An electronic version of the application should also be e-mailed to grants2015@nsf.ac.lk. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

    Cant undergraduates join with the research works?

      It depends. The issue is in Sri Lankan “free Education System’ does not allow part time education in state universities. We have some experience in working for research work of others without our official presence. Some undergrads can work on research during internships
